I am a proud past resident of my hometown, Roberts, Montana, home of the Roberts Rockets, two churches, two saloons, a restaurant and 300 merry Montanans who were only too happy to act as self-appointed deputies during my youth there. I graduated from there, then the University of Montana, then spent 10 years as a folk singer, travelling the west and writing songs about the west, mainly Montana. I married Jackie in 1984 and it was then I chose the real estate career I now enjoy. I began in Denver, where we’d moved, in a commercial real estate firm where I was the top agent for eight of the nine years I worked there. We returned to Montana in 1993 and moved to Bozeman where I started my own company of real estate Brokers. I’ve been part of the RE/MAX system since 2000 and appreciate the power of the largest, most effective real estate network on the planet. My West Highland terrier Nessie teaches me a new life lesson every day, but mainly reminds me that it’s better to be happy than not.
But, enough about me. Most of who I am is about Montana. I was raised in a small town. We knew everyone on a first name basis. We took care of one another, too. No big deal. If someone was hungry, we gave them a job so they could feed themselves and their family. If someone needed help, we gave it and, in turn, received it. I would like to take people back in time to our annual Fireman’s Picnic and enlist them in an egg tossing contest or one-legged race. Maybe call their name off the bench to go in to a tightly contested basketball game where the Roberts Rockets were staging a heroic comeback against huge odds. But if I can’t do that, the least I can do is welcome you to Montana and hope your experience here is one-tenth of what I’ve experienced. We’d both be lucky.
Keep ‘er steady.
